Homes along the Potomac River

Homes along the Potomac River

If you’re in the market for a Riverfront home or home with a view of the Potomac River, there are several residential neighborhoods in North Arlington Virginia that offer beautiful views of the area. These homes overlook the George Washington Memorial homes on the Potomac RiverParkway which runs North and South along the banks of the river. Here you will also find many wooded and forested parks.

Most of the waterfront or Riverfront homes are going to be in the Old Town section of Alexandria. Old Town is south of Arlington and carries the most prestigious Zip Code of 22314. Several of these residential neighborhoods are right on the border of DC (the nation’s capital) and Virginia. In addition to easy access to the DC area and north to Arlington, there are also several parks along the waterfront. The beautiful Bell Haven Country Club and golf course is also just south of the freeway. Therefore, you are not only getting a beautiful home with a beautiful view, but also incredible accessibility to the nation’s capital and beyond. Old Town is rich in history and is a must-see neighborhood for visitors and locals alike.

Homes and Prices

Home prices in the Alexandria area start at about $400,000 and can range as high as $3,000,000 or $4,000,000 depending on location and amenities. Those closer to the water will naturally command the higher prices, offering oversized lots with outbuildings, multilevel living, fenced yards and manicured neighborhoods. Many of these homes are going to be two-story brick structures built in the 1930s and 1940s. Many homes offer original woodworking but have updated wiring, plumbing, and some architecture.

Where to live in Arlington Virginia

Where to live in Arlington Virginia

Arlington Virginia sits right across the Potomac River from Washington DC and encompasses a huge demographic area. From Fort Myer to East Falls Church, Northridge to Old Glebe, the Arlington area and Arlington County is home to over 200,000 residents and is the fourth largest city in the state of Virginia.

Where to live in Arlington VA

There are dozens of parks, schools, government buildings and more in the Arlington area, most notable being the Pentagon.  It is also home to the Arlington National Cemetery, a popular destination for tourists and residents alike.  Arlington is easily accessible along Interstate 395 which runs East and West as does Interstate 66 which runs directly through the middle of the city itself. Fort Myer is located on the eastern side of Arlington up against the Potomac River with the Arlington National Cemetery overlooking the George Washington Memorial Parkway. Arlington Boulevard and Washington Boulevard travel around the perimeter and converge at the Pentagon at the southern end of Fort Myer.

Most residential neighborhoods are located to the north and to the West of Fort Myer in neighborhoods such as Williamsburg, East Falls Church, Boulevard Manor, Arlington Forest and Douglas Park. Along the last three mentioned neighborhoods are several parks and schools with creeks and rivers interspersed throughout the neighborhoods.

It’s appropriate to mention here that many of the neighborhoods in Arlington Virginia are now deemed “urban villages” as a result of the specific urban planning put into effect some years ago to discourage dependency on automobiles by making each neighborhood self-sufficient with its own grocery store, restaurants, entertainment and shopping.  Interspersed among these are the bus and metrorail systems which provide quick and easy access within Arlington and the entire Washington Metro area.

Arlington Virginia offers a variety of high-rise buildings, condominiums, townhomes and single detached residential neighborhoods. Depending on what you’re looking for and your price range, styles of homes and location vary greatly. The Courthouse area is somewhat of a staid neighborhood and Pentagon City has a few high-rise developments notable for lofts, studio apartments, and condominiums. Crystal City offers many hotels and condominiums as well as active nightlife, eclectic restaurants, casual bistros and shops. The Rosslyn and Ballston areas feature boutiques, quiet neighborhoods, and urban environments with walkable neighborhoods and easy access to Key Bridge and Georgetown in Washington DC. Clarendon is perfect for college-age and twenty-somethings looking for night life and the hub of the action.

The best approach to deciding  where to live in Arlington  Virginia is to find out how much you can afford, where you’re working, and where you or your family tends to spend the most time. If you’re looking for great schools, and easy commute route, or walking distance to shops and restaurants, Arlington Virginia provides neighborhoods for each of these plus many more. With a variety of price ranges, styles, and neighborhoods, Arlington Virginia makes an ideal location whether you’re just passing through or choosing us as your permanent destination. Meet Norma Skeete

About Norma Skeete

I have resided in the Washington Metropolitan Area since 1980 when I migrated from Jamaica; Arlington, Virginia has been home since 1999.

Today’s real estate market has become more complex by virtue of the ever changing laws and regulations by which it is governed.  In addition, because of technological advances, real estate is marketed quite differently from a mere few years ago.  This means that first and foremost one needs to have not only the basic knowledge of real estate, but must also be motivated to keep abreast of the numerous regulatory and technological changes.  This presents no challenge to me coming from a background in two other heavily regulated industries – accounting and financial services.

I continue to keep abreast of industry changes and other new challenges as evidenced by my GRI (Graduate Realtor Institute), SRES (Senior Real Estate Resource) and SFR (Short Sale and Foreclosure Resource) designations.  Understand that these designations are held by very few realtors and so I am very proud to be a part of this exclusive club, so to speak which gives me the extra tools to take my service to you, my clients, a notch above.

Coupled with my motto of SERVICE TAILORED TO YOU, I have been able to harness the very same traits that were vital to my success in my aforementioned careers – honesty, integrity, dedication, determination, trustworthiness, cutting-edge product and market knowledge.  I bring these qualities to each of my clients on a daily basis.  Every buying and selling transaction is handled with professionalism, and I ensure that a satisfied customer is at the end of each and every transaction.

So, are you (or anyone you know) looking to buy or sell a home?  Are you worried about the stress and cost of using a Realtor®?  Hate the pushy sales approach?  Your real estate transaction does not have to be that way.  With my educational approach and service tailored to you, I am dedicated to making it as pain free as possible whilst ensuring that you get the best deal.
